    I had made the assumption that TRIM was enabled by default nowadays. Apparently not. To enable it for your filesystems, edit /etc/fstab and add "discard" as a mount option:

    /dev/mapper/vg_foo-lv_home /home                   ext4    defaults,noatime,discard        1 2

  2. Linux and Sandy Bridge PCI Woes

    I put together a sandy bridged based server a while ago with 2 PCI intel network cards. However, it didn't turn out to work very well. After putting some load on the network it would become unbearably slow with error messages like this in the syslog:

    irq 16: nobody ...
